What is Windows 8?

For some time now we have been hearing a lot about Windows 8, a revolutionary invention of Microsoft. But there are still many of us who do not have a clear idea of what actually is Windows 8. In this resource I will brief you about Windows 8 and its basic features. Read on to know all about it.

What is Windows 8?

Windows 8 is a new version of operating system developed by Microsoft. This is for use on a personal computers including laptops, desktops, tablets, Smartphones and even for home theater PC’s.  Microsoft has introduced a significant change to the ‘till now in-use’ operating systems with more flexibility and improved user experience by introducing Windows 8 operating system. With this new user friendly graphical inter-phase, a rich and improved experience is provided to the users.

Windows 8 introduced a touch-sensitive system based on Microsoft’s “Metro” design language, which features a new “Start screen” or welcome screen instead of a “start menu” in older versions of Windows. This Start screen of Windows 8 consists of a grid of dynamic tiles that represent various applications available to the users.   Further, there is a new “app” platform and a new Windows Store to get new applications to your operating system directly.

The salient features and most appreciated changes in Windows 8 are: New technology with USB 3.0, near field communication, 4 Kn Advanced format, low-power ARM architecture and cloud computing. Along with these there is a built-in antivirus system and secure booting facilities. Every latest development in the field of technology has been taken care of while producing Windows 8. Users has appreciated the improved performance, more secure browsing, improved support for touchscreen features and dynamic approach but initial confusion among them did not let it take over the market completely.
